Grosvenor Law’s Andrew Gilmore featured in Kysen’s ‘The Conversation’ blog

Grosvenor Law’s head of criminal, Andrew Gilmore, sat down with Kysen’s MD Clare Rodway in relation to a media enquiry from the Express newspaper, requesting legal comment on an EastEnders’ storyline.  In her blog Clare Rodway recounts her conversation with Andrew about permanent changes to working practices as a result of lockdown, and in particular the Court’s increased use of technology.

Andrew notes that the use of online hearings in the Criminal Justice System has increased efficiency in terms of saving travel time and cost and is tremendous for smaller, preliminary hearings.  Andrew comments however that for full trial, “the in person element is critical”. Overall he says that “we need to be wise as to when technology should take a back seat in the courtroom and understand when face-to-face shouldn’t be substituted.”
