Steven Sarangavany Sengayen is a distinguished international lawyer and a Practising English Solicitor of England & Wales. He is the dynamic co-founder and managing partner of Steven & Associates, a renowned International Law Firm based in Mauritius. Steven is also the esteemed Founder and President of the International Law Association (Mauritius Branch). His legal acumen extends across borders with a thriving practice in the City of London.

Steven’s academic background is as impressive as his professional trajectory. His journey in law began with an LL.B from the University of Hull, followed by a Pg. Dip. Legal Practice from the University of Oxford. He further specialized with an LL.M in International Finance and Securities Law from the University of London, King’s and Queen Mary Colleges. With a BA Hons. in Economics and Law from London Guildhall University and a Licence degree in Administration Economique et Social (AES) from the University of Paris V, Steven’s credentials are truly global.

Steven’s professional prowess was further honed when he trained and qualified as an English Solicitor in London. In December 2014, he expanded his skillset by graduating with an MBA in Finance from the University of Bradford, School of Management.

In September 2012, Steven achieved an unprecedented accolade by becoming the first ever Mauritian citizen to be elected Freeman for the City of London Solicitors’ Company. His expertise lies in advising and assisting clients on various cross border international dispute resolution matters, including arbitrations under a broad spectrum of civil and common laws, general litigation, and corporate, international finance, and investment matters.

He is highly regarded in the field of international arbitration and holds a distinguished position on the approved list of Arbitrators for the Mauritius International Arbitration Centre (MIAC). With his vast experience and expertise, he has successfully resolved complex disputes and facilitated fair resolutions for numerous clients.

Steven’s experience with the court system in Mauritius is noteworthy. He has been briefed to work on appellate work before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and has acted in some of the most notable appeals in recent years.

Steven’s contributions to the legal field extend beyond practice. He has worked for prestigious institutions such as the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and has been recognized by the World Bank Group as an expert in the area of insolvency in Mauritius. He is also a contributing member of the executive council of the International Law Association (ILA) and has chaired several ILA committees, making him the first Mauritian citizen ever to achieve this honor.

In his role as President of ILA Mauritius, Steven has organized international conferences, providing valuable insights into emerging trends in international commercial arbitration. His expertise, commitment, and innovative thinking continue to drive the legal conversation forward, marking him as a leader in the field of international dispute resolution and litigation.
